Perhaps they were trying to do a full refret? who knows. Whoever owned this before my client went ahead and ripped those 4 frets out. He gave me the go ahead, and the following is a brief picture essay of most of the process. Originally he asked to just have it set up, but being in such a state of disrepair (and I can’t stand seeing them that way!) I asked if he’d allow me to go ahead and do a partial refret, along with a fret leveling/dressing/crowing to bring this thing back up to fighting shape.

It is a late 90’s model, with an A Serial Number, and the first year of production when Fender Japan switched from “Made in Japan” over to “Crafted…” I worked on this for a client who actually beat me to the punch after seeing this on craigslist and agreed to buy it sight unseen. This is a Sonic Blue 1969 Reissue Fender Mustang, Crafted in Japan.
